

Kathleen Barrett, former resident of Santa Fe and Rio Rancho, New Mexico passed away June 18 in Cary, North Carolina at the age of 81 with her sister and friend at her bedside. Kathleen was born and raised in San Jose, California, attended Holy Cross High School in Mountain View, CA and was in the second class of women to graduate from Santa Clara University. Kathleen’s career was as a secretary for architectural firms. She pursued her interests in ballet and Southwestern culture throughout her life. She loved the natural beauty of God’s creation and was particularly fond of her pet poodles and parakeets.
Kathleen was beloved by people including her sister Eileen and brother-in-law Jim Mitchell now of Cary, North Carolina who would spend time with her at her residential facility. Her good friend, Jodi Hughes of Rio Rancho, NM was her advocate and protector for many years after Kathleen was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Jodi wasn’t just a friend but she and her family embraced Kathleen making her a part of their family which Kathleen loved and appreciated.
Kathleen will be laid to rest in Cary. If they wish, friends are invited to make a donation in her name to their favorite animal charity or Mother Teresa Catholic Church in Cary, NC.
