Kelley Erin Blackmon Walker

Kelley Erin Blackmon Walker, age 41, passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at her home in Cary, North Carolina.

She was born the second child of Durwood Lenzie Blackmon and Linda Lee Blackmon in Fayetteville, North Carolina on February 20, 1979.

She is preceded in death by her father, Durwood Lenzie Blackmon and is survived by her loving husband, David Scott Walker; mother, Linda Lee Blackmon; brother, Durwood Blackmon II and his fiancé, Janet Moffitt; several nieces and nehpews; and her five fur-babies.

Kelley was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, School of Nursing. She was registered nurse for 20 years and took great pride in helping others.

Kelley enjoyed world travel, horseback riding, watersports, camping, cinema/movies, live theater and was an avid fan of the Carolina Hurricanes hockey team. She was a passionate animal lover and cared deeply for discarded and forgotten furry family members. Kelley assisted with many animal charities and rescue organizations as a volunteer foster parent.

Due to the current pandemic, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Her radiant smile, kind and caring nature, and generous spirit will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all her friends and family.

I did not know Kelly, but I did know her Daddy, as we grew up in the same rural area I still call home. I believe she looks a lot like him. My thoughts and Prayers are with each of you. I am also a nurse, and passionate about all the animals that need us in a positive way.

Linda, I am so sorry I didn't stay in touch and never got to know your beautiful girl, or got to know Beau better. I have had you all in my thoughts often over the years. I was thinking about Kelley's birthday a lot over the past week, and that's how I found out about her struggle, and her passing. There are no words and I just can't even stand to think about your pain. I know how much you cherish every second of your children's lives. You were and are the best mom in the world, and I'm sure Kelley felt your love every second she was here.
When I worked at Planned Parenthood, I had to write the news about Shannon Lowney... i was way too immature for that task. I left it to a wiser voice:
"I am not resigned to the shutting away of loving hearts in the hard ground.

We met Scott and Kelley over a shared love of Hurricanes hockey when they sat behind us. We learned we had many shared interests, as we were all in healthcare. Kelley was a bright shining light whose spirit will always live on. We adopted a dog that Kelley and Scott fostered through Saving Grace and every time we look at her , we think of the blessing of this pet that Kelley and Scott entrusted us with.

One of our best volunteer fosters has lost her fierce and courageous battle with cancer. Kelley Blackmon Walker was only 41 years old. Kelley was a wonderful woman with a beautiful soul and she will be forever missed by all who ever had the pleasure of meeting/knowing her. Kelley’s close friend Susan and Kelley’s husband ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Kelley’s name to our 501c3, Dog Warriors Rescue. Her joy and selfless ability to care for our injured and mentally broken dogs in need will never be forgotten. She touched our hearts profoundly by opening her heart and home to help rehabilitate dogs who needed her love and care. RIP sweet Kelley. The bright light you radiated while here on planet earth will never dim in the minds and souls of all the humans’ and dogs’ lives you touched. Please watch over all of truly earned your wings a very long time ago before ever crossing over to the other side. ❤️ 👼 🙏🏻🐕❤️😔😇
