Laurence Donald Palmisano passed away on January 23, 2024 after a short illness. Larry was born and raised in Atlantic City, NJ. He was the fourth of five sons born to an Italian, Immigrant family. Upon graduation from Pleasantville High School he joined the Navy and served in the Second World War. He met Jane Balestrieri in middle school and the two became high school sweethearts. They married in 1947 when Larry returned from the war. They had celebrated 74 years of marriage when Jane passed away in December 2021. They have one daughter, Leslie Corn, two grandchildren, Melissa (Jason) Liner and Matthew (Jennifer) Corn and six great-grandchildren, all of whom live in the area.
Larry's father had started Seashore Fruit Company, a wholesale fruit and produce business in Atlantic City. When they were old enough, the brothers went to work with their father. Their father retired and left the sons to run the business which they did until they sold it in 1991. Jane retired the same year and the two of them moved to Florida.
Throughout their marriage Jane and Larry loved to travel. Larry's business was always slow in January, (no one goes to the beach then!) so the two would take a trip. At first, they travelled in the United States. Later they would go to Europe. Once they retired, they went to many different countries. They often went several times a year and they would stay several weeks at a time. Their favorite place to visit was Paris where they owned a timeshare, and they would travel there every year.
Music has always been a big part of Larry's life. As a child he learned to play the saxophone. When he was in high school, he and Jane played for the USO dances. He continued to play while in the Navy. When he was out of the Navy, despite suffering a hearing loss in his right ear during the war, he and some friends formed a band and played in local bars and restaurants. Later in life he taught himself to play the flute.
Larry was raised in the Roman Catholic Church, and as an adult was active in his parish. He became a councilman in the town where they lived and served in that capacity for many years. He later served on various residents' committees in the condominium complexes and neighborhoods where they lived over the years. Larry lived in Searstone Retirement Community in Cary, NC since 2014 and been a resident of Brittany Place since 2019. He was the Resident Council President of Brittany Place and was a great advocate for the residents there.
There will be a private burial service for his family only. A Celebration of Life will be planned at Searstone soon. Notice of the celebration will be posted on the Brown-Wynne Funeral Home website. Remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
