

He was born November 24, 1947 in Syracuse, New York, where he lived much of his life before moving to Cary, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his mother, Roba Elizabeth Carlisle Haibt and his father, Ceylon Edward Haibt.
After completing high school Leigh served in the United States Navy. Much of his time in the service was aboard the USS Essex as a member of the helicopter squadron and anti-submarine squadron (ASW) during the Vietnam War.
Leaving the Navy, Leigh had several jobs before becoming a maintenance mechanic for Penney Curtis Baking Company of Syracuse, New York for thirty five years. After retiring, he was a Sergeant for ERMC Security in Durham, N.C.
Haibt attended Bethel Baptist Church and Shepherds Church. He loved spending time with his family and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycling, wood carving, playing the trumpet (began while in his high school band) and making his famous trail mix.
Leigh leaves to treasure his memory his beloved wife of 52 years, Wendy M. Haibt, his son Leonard R. Haibt (Angela), granddaughter McKenzie, grandson Leo. Also surviving are his brother Edward C. Haibt (Therse), brother-in-law Donald Knickerbocker, and several nieces and one nephew.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, May 7, 2023 at Brown Wynne Funeral Home Chapel, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, North Carolina 27511.
