Born on December 4, 1935, in Andrews, Indiana, Lewis grew up with strong Midwestern roots that shaped his life with humility, resilience, and kindness. He carried those values through every chapter of his life—serving as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force, during his distinguished 35-year career as an electrical/mechanical engineer with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, as a devoted husband, a supportive father, and a doting grandfather.
Lewis shared sixty-nine years of love and partnership with his wife, RoseAnn Knight, who stood faithfully by his side through life’s joys and challenges. Together, they built a family that remained his greatest source of pride. He is survived by RoseAnn, their four children and spouses—Cheri Knight Long and J.T. Long, Keith Knight, Matt Knight and Bill O’Brien, Troy and Kristen Knight—and three grandchildren—Alexandria Knight, Tyler Knight, and Caden Knight—each of whom felt the strength of his quiet wisdom, steadfast guidance, and unconditional love.
Lewis found joy in simple, meaningful things. He loved woodworking, caring for his garden, sharing his harvest with friends and neighbors, and feeding the birds. Always willing to lend a helping hand, he was someone people could count on in both big and small moments. Lewis will be remembered for the consistent kindness he showed others, his quiet acts of service, his humor, and the lasting example of integrity, generosity of spirit, and unwavering dedication to family. He leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to guide and inspire everyone who knew him.
A private family service will be held to honor his life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a cancer research foundation of your choice, as a tribute to Lewis’s strength and perseverance.
