

Lorenzo Angelo Gallo, 90, formerly of Smithfield, Rhode Island, passed away Saturday, October 26, 2013 with his family by his side. The son of the late Joseph and Ameila (Parrillo) Gallo, he is survived by his wife of 66 years, Gloria (Caranci) Gallo, his only son, Larry and his wife Laura of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and his two grandsons, Nicholas and Christopher who affectionately knew him as Papa. Lorenzo was a lifelong resident of Rhode Island before moving to North Carolina three and a half years ago to be close to his family. He was predeceased by his brothers Al and Frank and his sisters, Ella and Anna. He was a graduate of North Providence High School where he was a member of the football and basketball teams. He earned his college degrees from Trinity College and Rhode Island College. Lorenzo spent 36 years educating students in science, chemistry and physics at North Providence High School, a career that included being Head of the Science Department and Basketball Coach. He completed his career as an educator at Roger Williams College. He was a US Navy officer and veteran of World War II. A memorial service is planned for a later date. The family expresses their sincere gratitude for his care to the staff at Sunrise of Cary and Uni-Health in Durham, North Carolina.
