She was born in Rome, Georgia on December 2nd, 1938 to Joe and Maggie Stripling. She is preceded in death by her older brother Lang.
She graduated from Rome High School in 1957 and from Shorter College in 1961. She married the love of her life, Robert D. Erwin, on June 18, 1961. She taught elementary school for many years and received an additional degree from Berry College in 1973.
Lynda is survived by her husband, Bob, her children, Hannah Erwin of Chapel Hill, NC, John (Marcia) Erwin of Wake Forest, NC, Joe (Jill) of Richmond, VA; five grandchildren, Katie, Rachel, Mark, Grace and Preston; and her brother, Dudley.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Cary and an active member of the Faith and Freedom Class. Lynda was involved in several bridge groups where she was always competitive – winning the last game she played! After moving to Glenaire Retirement Community she joined the Olympic Corn Hole Team and won Honorable Mention in her most recent competition. Her family was her first and foremost priority and she was so very proud of each and every one. She loved to vacation with them at any beach, but especially Bald Head Island!
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 22, 2019 at 4pm in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church Cary, located at 117 South Academy Street, Cary, NC 27511. The family will receive visitors in the Fellowship Hall starting at 2:30pm.
The family has requested that donations be made in Lynda’s honor to either First United Methodist Church Cary, or Transitions Hospice, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
