August 6, 1915 – January 25, 2012
Margaret Faye “Peg” Anderson Brooks, a gentle, kind and loving lady passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 with many of her family members with her. She died at her home in the Woodland Terrace Assisted Living Facility where she had been lovingly cared for by its excellent staff that she considered part of her family. Peg was born in Columbiana County, OH on August 6, 1915, to the late Artie Miller Anderson and John Edward Anderson. In 1936, she married Eugene Brooks. They were married for 69 years until his death in 2005. Peg and Gene lived in Lisbon, OH where they raised their family and were active in their church and community. In 1963, they moved to Benton Harbor, MI and Gene became Director of Engineering at Gast Manufacturing Co. IN 1978, they retired and moved to Apex to enjoy the warm weather and be closer to family in the area. Peg was a lifelong Presbyterian. She worshipped with family at Greenwood Forest Baptist Church in Cary after moving to Apex. Peg enjoyed her life as a loving wife, homemaker, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She always kept a lovely, welcoming home for family and friends. She was a great cook who loved to try and improve on new recipes. One of Peg’s great loves was flower gardening. No matter where she lived, her yard was always the pride of the neighborhood. In the years they lived in MI, Peg and Gene won many local golf tournaments. They also enjoyed fishing in the pond at their Apex home.
In addition to her parents and husband, Peg was preceded in death by her sister, Alice Durr and her brothers, Lloyd and Walter Anderson.
She is survived by her sons, Edward Brooks and wife, Sandy of Michigan City, IN and Dr. Tom Brooks and wife, Pat of Cary. She was so proud of her grandchildren: Kelley Attias of Australia, Todd Brooks and wife, Anna of MI, Andy Brooks and wife, Soraya of NY, Tom Brooks and wife Julie of Apex, Chris Brooks and wife, Amy of Cary, Michael Brooks and wife, Jamesy of Fuquay-Varina and Haley Biggerstaff of IN; 11 great grandchildren: Claire Attias and Emily, Camden, Nathan, Talia, Leo, Thomas, Nathan, Cameron, Anderson and Ashton Brooks.
The family expresses sincere appreciation to the staff at Woodland Terrace and to Hospice of Wake County. We are so fortunate to have had Grandma Peg in our lives for so many years. We thank God for her life and now entrust her to Him with love and thankfulness.
A family memorial service will be held at a later date.
