I will miss talking to my mom. Even though we lived in different states, we always communicated. We would call each other all the time and I sent lots of pictures so she could see how my family and I were doing. When I could, I sent her the biggest best flowers of the season. It was our thing because we both loved flowers so much. She always gave me encouragement when it came to dealing with hard times with my children and grandchildren. She gave a lot of good advice, but the best thing she ever did for me was give me a solid foundation in Jesus. She made sure God was a part of our lives and it probably help save mine. Rest in Christ , Mom. See you on the other side.

My grandma loved football. Every fall she would get so excited to watch her teams play every weekend. While I was in school that included me. From the time I was in 7th grade, I played on my school’s team. When I made it to high school, our team got a new head coach and started to improve. Every season for 4 years, grandma attended the games she could make. Those she didn’t, I would call her later and debrief over the phone. In my senior year, my team won the conference championships. Grandma was so proud of me. She smiled so wide that year after I told her about my many interceptions, tackles, and games won. Honestly, she probably would have preferred I continue playing football in college instead of picking baseball. No matter what though, I know she was happy that I was doing what I loved. Love you grandma, and I know ditto. 

I would greet her at the car door, the treat lady always had a smile and something in her walker just for me. I would sit next to her at the table, the treat lady always snuck me food even if my owners said no. I would sit with her on the couch while she watched Golden Girls, the treat lady always had pets and snuggles to give. I would watch from the window as she left, the treat lady always waved goodbye to me. With love to the treat lady from the Maslowski’s family dog. 

I'm so sorry for your family's loss, Colleen. I like your mom already;   my mom was born on December 22, for one. And of course, your mom's love for animals resonates within me.  Like you, I had four siblings. What a wonderful woman your mom is, to have brought you into the world, so that those of us fortunate enough to know you could appreciate you, in addition to recognizing that you personally have touched countless lives.   My condolences to you during this time of loss.  

One of my favorite memories of my grandma is when I would help her get ready for special events, birthdays, and holidays. I would stop by her apartment walk in and say, “hi lady, ready for your glam!?” We would share a laugh and then I’d dramatically open her closet doors to pick out her outfit. Obviously we had to debate on color choice and if she would need a sweater. Spoiler alert, grandma always needed a sweater even in 90 degree weather. Then I’d usher her into the bathroom to do her hair and makeup. Without fail as I put on her concealer she would look at me and say, “hey your good at this, ever think about being a professional?” I’d laugh and say, “no grandma I just enjoy doing your makeup.” When I finished up, I’d spritz a little Chanel no5 on her wrists, and then tell her to look in the mirror. With a big smile she would say, “wow this is nice, you did a good job! What’s the price?” I’d say, “well you can pay me in tootsie rolls before we go.” Grandma always had some sort of candy lying around, with tootsie rolls being a big favorite for as long as I can remember. I’m going to miss these little moments with my grandma, but I am so thankful for the smiles and laughter we did share together. 

I visited with Marion some Saturdays and enjoyed her quick wit and great sense of humor. She always made me laugh. I will miss her. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends.
