Born November 9, 1923 in Jamestown, North Dakota, she soon moved with her parents and 6 siblings to Cedar Rapids, Iowa where she grew up during the Great Depression. After finishing high school, she eloped with her high school sweetheart, Richard (Dick).
As an Army wife, she traveled extensively throughout North America and Europe. Upon Richard’s retirement they moved to Boone, North Carolina where he was a Vice Chancellor at Appalachian State University and she taught English as a second language.
Following Richard’s retirement from Appalachian State University, they moved to the Raleigh area where they lived for 30 years, of which 23 years Marjorie lived in Cary, North Carolina at Glenaire Retirement Home, which she thoroughly enjoyed. While there, she enjoyed playing in a bridge group, volunteering at the gift shop and sitting on various advisory boards.She felt that the Glenaire community was loving, supportive and caring.
Beloved mother of 4 children, Diane Horton (Ray), Richard Arnold II (Nancy), Joan Fullerton (Terry), and Chrys de Marco (Marco). Blessed with the love of her 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Marjorie was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Colonel Richard D. Arnold.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at 9:15 am at Montlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, 2911 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 am. Entombment will be in Montlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
