Mark was born on September 3, 1952 to George and Kathleen Riek. He attended Brophy College Prep in Phoenix, AZ and received a Computer Science degree from Arizona State University in 1983. Mark worked for IBM for several years. After leaving IBM, Mark taught adult literacy and computer science at Wake Technical Community College in Cary, North Carolina. In the latter part of his life, he expressed that his greatest accomplishment was in teaching, it gave him joy and fulfillment.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents George and Kathleen Riek and his siblings George “Sam” Clifton, Jr. and Mary-Margaret .
He is survived by his siblings Steven (Dallas), Patricia Johnson (Scottsdale), David (Ellen)(Yuma), William (Yuma), Mary Riek (Seattle) and his 7 nieces and nephews.
A private service will be held by his family, in lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to a literacy program of your choice.
