Mark was born in Rutherfordton, NC on February 28, 1956 to Walter Glenn Toomey and Ruby Painter Toomey. As a young child the family moved to Cary, NC where Mark graduated from Cary High School in 1974.
Mark attended Western Carolina University, where he met his wife, Cathy. Mark graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1979. He and Cathy have resided in Raleigh, NC, Knightdale, NC, Matthews, NC and the current home of 12 years in Winston-Salem, NC.
Mark had a career as a graphic designer at RayChem, Inc. He was also a freelance graphic designer and most recently used his artistic talents in home remodeling.
Mark enjoyed studying history, especially the Civil War era and exploring his Irish heritage. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his son, Travis, especially visiting Civil War historic sites and taking long mountain hikes together.
Mark has left behind his wife of 31 years, Cathy Brooks Toomey, and his son, Travis Glenn Toomey, both of Winston-Salem, his beloved mother, Ruby Painter Toomey of Cary, NC and his brother Lane Toomey (Karin) of Southern Pines, NC. Also to cherish his memory are his father-in-law, P. A. Brooks and brother-in-law, Wes Brooks (Debbie) of Winston-Salem and brother-in-law, Barry Brooks of Kernersville and his nieces and nephew.
He was preceded in death by his father Walter Glenn Toomey.
A celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Cary, NC.
