Martha "Marti" Jane Hefner

Raleigh, NC - Martha “Marti” Jane Hefner, 64, passed away January 20, 2015. Marti was born August 24, 1950 to Charles Wilford and Ruth Elsie Jordan Hefner. Marti graduated from high school and immediately went into the US Army in 1968. Marti loved to travel and went overseas during her service. She worked for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Animal Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), Animal Care (AC) and received her 40 year pin in November 2014. Marti loved animals, especially her beloved dogs, Baxter (who predeceased Marti) and new puppy, Oso.

Marti was a generous and loving person who was everyone’s friend. She was an inspiration. Fighting breast cancer for 12 years, and only growing stronger and happier from doing so. It was a challenge that she faced full on and wanted people to know about, but not feel sad for her, as there was no reason but to be positive. She touched people’s hearts wherever she went. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by goddaughter, Andrea Parker; god grandchildren, Sarina Marsh, Michael Marsh, and Alicia Boyd; sisters, Ruth Ann Issac, Lora Lee Jordan, and Pamela Francis Johnson; brothers, Charles Allen Heffner and Thomas Lynn Hefner, all of Charleston, WV. She also leaves behind aunt and uncle, Lela and Pete Valdellon of Valdosta, GA.

A Celebration of Marti's Life will be held on Monday, February 2, 2015 from 2-5pm at Carol Johnson Poole Clubhouse at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course, 1509 Main Campus Drive, Raleigh, NC 27606. Hors d'oeuvres will be served.
