

Mary Lynn Griffith Hutchison was born in Saluda, South Carolina on June 03, 1930, to the late Jefferson Davis Griffith, Sr and Bettie Grigsby Griffith. She was lovingly called “Lindy Baby” as a child and was to be forever called “Lindy”. Lindy had one brother, “Jack” Jefferson Davis Griffith, Jr. that passed away in 2024.
Lindy graduated from Columbia College, in Columbia, SC. While at Columbia College, Lindy achieved many honors and was Student Body President. She always said that her best achievement was meeting the love of her life, Thomas I. Hutchison, Sr. while attending Columbia College. Tom and Lindy were married on June 16, 1954. They were to become proud parents of two children, Thomas I. Hutchison, Jr. (Tami) and Beth H. Blackman (Anthony).
Tom and Lindy moved to Greensboro, North Carolina in 1961… but always stayed proud South Carolinians, pulling for their beloved South Carolina Gamecocks.
Family and church were everything to Lindy. Lindy loved her church, Centenary United Methodist Church, Greensboro, NC and spent countless hours volunteering and cooking for many large groups. Lindy was also a very accomplished golfer. Greensboro City Champion one year and six hole-in-ones over her lifetime. She also loved flowers and always had beautiful flower gardens.
Lindy moved to Spring Arbor of Cary in 2021 to be closer to family. The Spring Arbor Memory Cottages became her extended family, and she loved all the beautiful staff that cared for her.
Lindy passed at Spring Arbor on June 08, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jefferson Davis Griffith, Sr. and Bettie (Grigsby) Grifith. Her loving husband, Thomas I. Hutchison, Sr., her brother, Jack Griffith and her son-in-law, Anthony Blackman.
Lindy is survived by her two children, Thomas I. Hutchison, Jr. and Beth H. Blackman. Three grandchildren; Griffith Hutchison (Cassie), Cameron Blackman (Elizabeth), and Henley Lester (Charlie). Great grandchildren, CJ Hutchison, Hudson Blackman, Harper Blackman, Grigsby Lester, Hayden Blackman and Baby Lester (to arrive in October 2025).
The family will be gathering for an inurnment and Celebration of the Lives of both Lindy and Thomas, on July 10th, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the Memorial Garden of White Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1704 Oberlin Road, Raleigh, NC 27608.
