MaryAnn Lasko, dedicated mother to Michael Anderson (Anna) and Rebecca DeMarte (Jason), Grandmother to Ashley DeMarte-Ritchie (Will) and Amanda DeMarte died August 31,2026. Born to Walter and Eva Sitek on March 9, 1942, second of four children, Ron Sitek, Thelma Pangratz, and Daniel Sitek of Erie, Pa.
Mary Ann built her life with steady purpose and a strong work ethic, qualities that guided her throughout her lifetime. She worked as a machinist with General Electric and retired after more than 30 years of dedicated service. Her earlier years were spent with her siblings working on the family farm.
Her life was not easy in any regard. She loved to challenge everything as much as to be challenged. Described by her loved ones as strong willed, unstoppable, steadfast, resilient, and fearless with a tender heart of gold under a hardened exterior.
She crocheted many afghans, baby blankets, sweater sets, hats, scarves, and her famous fingerless mittens throughout her life and was self-taught in her craft. Many kitchens have personal dishcloths made by her hands.
Her medical providers and caregivers enjoyed her humor, determination and positive outlook while under their care.
She leaves behind the legacy of speaking her mind with nonjudgmental honesty and offering kindness with her quietly enduring gentle heart. She was always there to help others and will be missed by many.
In lieu of cards or flowers please continue MaryAnn’s love of animals by visiting your local zoo and donating your time and resources to the Humane Society animal rescue.
Her final selfless act was to gift her body to be a silent teacher for the next generation of medical professionals and physicians, please support organ donation.
A celebration of life is planned on September 19, 2026 at Brookside Volunteer Fire Station, 3560 Athens Street, Erie, PA 16510 from 2pm to 4pm.
