Mildred Freeland Moody Carroll, 93 passed away peacefully in her daughter’s home on November 21, 2025. Born on August 10, 1932 in Paris, Tennessee to Ella Mae and Robert Moody she was the 8th of 9 children.
She loved her family and was a devoted sister and daughter. Mildred was a gifted student and graduated as Valedictorian of her high school. She attended Toler Business College in her hometown and later moved to Wyandotte, Michigan to be near her sisters and brother.
She was a devoted Christian who lived her faith and inspired others with her grace and loving spirit. She attended church in Wyandotte and met the love of her life, Delbert Ray Carroll. The couple married on October 29, 1953. He made her laugh a lot and their union was a fun and Christ centered one.
Delbert decided to become a chiropractor and together they accomplished this journey which included buying a dry cleaning business which she ran while he went to school. Together they sacrificed and achieved his degree. They began a practice which led them to move to Newton, NC in 1959. Here they built their business, raised their family and were devoted to the Hickory Church of Christ. They had 35 loving years together until Delbert passed in 1989.
Mildred worked hard after Delbert’s passing to sell his business and she continued to work with the new chiropractor for 15 more years. She was treasured in this role for her knowledge and wisdom.
Mildred was deeply fond of her family and found her greatest joy in her role as mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She moved to the Raleigh area in 2010 to be near them.
She attended all their events and graduations and loved being a part of their lives. Mildred’s faith in Christ was the foundation of her life and she worshipped alongside her family at Brooks Ave. Church of Christ. She was a righteous woman who loved to laugh, to crochet and to keep immaculate books – her sharp mathematical mind always shining through.
She is survived by her daughter Linda Powell and husband Dan Powell; her grandchildren Christi Cabrera ( Joel), Eric Powell (Kate), Nicole Sullivan (Daniel), Carlee Turner ( Simon); and her great grandchildren, Noah, Amelina, Naia and Isla Cabrera, Will, Gray and Emerson Powell, Naomi Sullivan, and Pio Turner with one more on the way.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Delbert Carroll, her son Kenneth Carroll and her siblings Irene, Estelle, Velma, Verner, John David, Charlotte, Paul and baby Robert Timothy.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Brooks Avenue Church of Christ in Raleigh, NC on Thursday December 4th at 11 am with visitation and receiving by the family beginning at 10 am.
