

Ned Hilton Baker, 91, of Raleigh, NC, passed away with his family by his side on Monday, December 13, 2021. He was born January 10, 1930 in Franklin County, NC, to the late Simon and Rosa Baker. He was a graduate of Bunn High School and served in the US Coast Guard in his younger life. He retired from the NC State Highway Patrol as a telecommunicator after thirty years of service. He was a dedicated member of Swift Creek Baptist Church, Raleigh.
Ned is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lucy Blackley Baker of the home; his daughter Karen Burden and her husband Mark of Cary; his daughter Sheila Lang and her husband Jay also of Cary; and his grandchildren Morgan Lang of Raleigh and Taylor Lang of Cary. He was preceded in death by his three sisters and four brothers.
He was a self-taught guitar player and loved traditional country and Southern gospel music. He spent many years playing in a country band that performed at local senior citizens centers. He enjoyed tending his vegetable garden and maintaining his perfect yard. Most importantly, his greatest love was his family, especially his grandchildren. He was always the happiest when the entire family was together for celebrations and holidays.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 17 from 12:45-1:45pm at Swift Creek Baptist Church, 9300 Penny Road, Raleigh, NC 27606. The funeral service will begin at 2pm followed by the burial in the church cemetery.
