Pat was born on May 16, 1947, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Louis and Evelyn Curran. He graduated magna cum laude from Rutgers School of Engineering with a Bachelor of Science degree in Ceramic Engineering. While at Rutgers, he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity as well as Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society.
After graduation from Rutgers, Pat was employed at the Advanced Materials Research Laboratory of Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Middletown, Connecticut. During that same period, he earned a master’s degree in Metallurgy at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Hartford, Connecticut. After leaving Pratt & Whitney Pat worked at Allied Signal Corporation in Morristown, New Jersey, for 22 years - first in its Advanced Research division, and later in sales and marketing. Pat was listed as inventor on numerous patents issued to Pratt & Whitney and Allied Signal during his career.
Pat is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cathy; his son and daughter-in-law, Patrick Curran, Jr. and Stacy Curran of Marshfield, Massachusetts, and their two children, Bobby and Ellie; his son and daughter-in-law, Mark Curran and Michele Curran of St. Louis, Missouri, and their 5 children, James, Declan, Mary Kendall, Liam, and Tatum; and his twin brother and sister-in-law, Michael Patrick Curran and Shirley Curran of Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, and their 2 children, Ryan and Nicole and their families. He was also a loving brother-in-law to Hal and Mary Ann Moore of Chatham, New Jersey, Bill and Patrice Fiore of Summit, New Jersey, and Thomas Moore and Christine Amalfe of Roseland, New Jersey, and a loving uncle not only to his brother’s children, Ryan and Nicole, but also to the children of his wife’s brothers and sister: Melissa Moore, Jennifer Johnson, Kelly Fiore, Dan Fiore, Alessandra Moore, Kyle Moore, and Sam Moore.
Pat’s family would like to thank Dr. Pletcher of SAS Health Care, all of the staff at Waverly Oncology (especially Dr. Graham, Dr. Bobzien, Dr. Kirby, and Diane Turnbull), the staff at Western Wake Medical, and the staff at Hospice of Wake County for their excellent and loving care.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Friday, November 2, 2012 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home Chapel, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, North Carolina 27511. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
