

Paul “Wayne” Queen, 74, passed away peacefully into the arms of the awaiting angels on the morning of January 11, 2014. Wayne was born in Sylva, NC on February 5, 1939 to Paul and Mamie Brown Queen. He was a retired Die Casting Supervisor and Security Officer. Wayne was an avid fisherman and spent most of his retirement enjoying that hobby along with raising his granddaughter and caring for his aging mother. Over the last 18 years, he waged a courageous battle against cancer never wavering in his commitment to family or letting it dampen his enthusiasm for life.
He is survived by his mother, Mamie J. Queen of Cary, NC; brother, Frank A. Queen of Fuquay-Varina, NC; sister, Marvita McMahan of Sylva, NC; granddaughter, Victoria Hayes of Cary, NC; nephews, Michael Queen, Carlos Queen and Joshua Queen; niece, Donna Kay McMahan; great nephews, Collin Queen, Brandon Evans and Dustin Harris.
Wayne was preceded in death by his father, Paul Queen; wife, Bertha Queen; stepson, Junior Hurt; and stepdaughter, Diane Pearl Hayes.
A funeral service will be held 3pm Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, NC. The family will receive friends starting at 2pm at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial will be at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Elmhurst, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
