Dick was born Oct. 3, 1941 in Ripley, WV, the son of Dutch and Veta Hart.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Nancy Rice Hart; sons, Bradley (Catherine) Hart of Birmingham, AL, and Andrew (Candace) Hart of Springfield, VA; and grandchildren, Emily and Joshua Hart of Birmingham and Ryan and Kyle Hart of Springfield. He is also survived by his brother,s Ronald (Lois) Hart of Washington, PA and David (Wanda) Hart of Washington, PA; sister, Nancy (Marvin) Rexroad of Lexington, KY; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Dick was a 1958 graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School in Charleston and a 1962 graduate of the West Virginia Institute of Technology, where he played basketball and baseball. He remained a lifelong devoted alumnus of West Virginia Tech and maintained a lifelong involvement in athletics. He also maintained an uncanny knack for establishing a connection with anyone he met from West Virginia.
Dick served as an auditor and human-resources trainer with the U.S. General Accounting Office in Washington, DC, for 35 years, retiring to Holly Springs in 1997. In retirement, he taught resume-writing at Wake Technical Community College and as a volunteer for church and civic groups; he helped write thousands of resumes that in turn helped many to secure jobs.
Dick was an active member of Kirk of Kildaire Presbyterian Church in Cary, heading an usher team and working with the Building and Grounds Committee, Kirk Classics, and the men’s fellowship group.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 27 at Kirk of Kildaire Presbyterian Church, 200 High Meadow Drive, Cary. A reception will be held at the church immediately following the service. A graveside service will be held at Montgomery Memorial Park in London, WV at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 28.
