

Richard Lee Hurlbert passed away Monday September 6, 2010. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mary Ann of Cary; sons, Richard L. (Carla) of Richmond, VA, Derek (Betty Anne) of Sicklerville, NJ, Robert (Dana) of York, PA and Patrick of Cary; grandchildren, Kelly Shinn, Derek Jr. and Ryan in NJ, Christopher, Ethan, and Olivia in York, Pa. and Ella and Jack in Richmond, VA; sister-in-law Cecile Gratz, brother-in-law Jack Willson and many nieces and nephews.
Dick served in the USMC from Dec 1958-1962. He was deployed to Japan, Okinawa, Borneo, and The Philippines, 2nd Marine Air Wing, Close Air Support Squadron. He was also deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba during the 1962 Cuban Missile crisis. Dick was a proud member of the Marine Corps League, Tarheel Detachment.
He was selected to the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Board of Examiners; consulted with United Way organizations including the National Headquarters; served as a Judge for The Excellence in Service Quality Award. After an extended career at IBM, he formed TBX Group Ltd. in 1998, consulting with several large international companies and the governments of Japan, Singapore, and Thailand.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 S.E. Maynard Rd., Cary on Saturday, September 11 at 10AM. The family will receive relatives and friends in the visitation room immediately following the service. Inurnment will be in Arlington National Cemetery November 5, 2010 at 1:00 PM, with military honors.
As his life revolved around his family, the Marine Corps, his community and children, in lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be sent to The Wounded Warrior Regiment, c/o Charitable Donations Coordinator, 3025 John Quick Road, MCB Quantico, VA 22134, make checks payable to the Department of Navy Gift Fund, memo - Wounded Warrior Regiment; Toys for Tots or your local United Way organization.
