Ronald E Leithe

Ronald E Leithe, 93, died on August 13, 2026. Born February 3, 1933, in Martins Ferry, Ohio, Ronald was the son of the late Earl August Leithe and Erma Springfield Leithe. Through a life marked by steady generosity of spirit and an easy warmth with others, he left a lasting impression on all who had the good fortune to know him.

Ronald graduated from The Ohio State University, Class of 1955, earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He later completed a Master of Education degree at Ohio University, preparing for a vocation defined by service, patience, and a sincere care for people.

He also served as a navigator of a KC97 Stratofreighter refueling tanker in the Strategic Air Command. In civilian life, Ronald devoted himself to education as a teacher and elementary school principal, retiring from Columbus Public Schools. Among his enduring contributions, he established the first Spanish immersion school in the Columbus public school system and created the English conversational program for foreign students at NCSU. Even in retirement, his kindness continued in practical ways, as he provided tutoring services for adults with reading difficulty and tutoring services for Spanish speakers learning English—meeting each learner with encouragement, respect, and a welcoming manner.

Ronald married Patricia Kay Schroder in Pemberville, Ohio, in 1955. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jaqueline Leithe Sebastion. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Patricia Kay Schroder Leithe; son, Mark E. Leithe and his wife, Linda; grandsons, Christopher G. Leithe and Andrew N. Leithe; granddaughter-in-law, Amanda Leithe; and great grandchildren, Annabelle, Archer, and Alec Leithe. Family was central to Ronald’s life, and his affection—especially for his two grandsons—was a constant source of joy.

In quieter moments, Ronald found pleasure in reading and in cooking international foods, interests that reflected both curiosity and a hospitable spirit. He is remembered as a warm, friendly presence, known for a ready smile and an infectious laugh.

A memorial service will be held 10:30 am Monday, September 14, 2026 at Glenaire Retirement Community
