Ruth Caroline Berk Anderson, 89, died December 24, 2018. She was born in Cushing, OK, the daughter of the late Adolph and Dorothea Meier Berk. She graduated from Guthrie High School, Guthrie, OK and St John’s Lutheran College, Winfield, KS. She taught at Redeemer Lutheran School in Evansville, IN and at Salem Lutheran School in Blue Island, IL. She was a former employee of Unisys and the contractors at the National Computer Center at RTP for almost 20 years. She was an active member of Resurrection Lutheran Church. She enjoyed scheduling the acolytes for the church services, participated in delivering Meals on Wheels and found great pleasure working in the Prayer Garden at the church. Mrs. Anderson was diagnosed with ALS in February of 2017.
Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Melvin (Mel) in 1999; her dear little granddaughter, Nora; brothers, Martin in 2015, Walter, who died as an infant, and Frances Williams; and special sister-in-law, Nancy Clark in October.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathleen LaManna of Bloomingdale, IL and five sons, Mark and Stephen of Cary, Kevin (Kelly) of Coats, NC, Glenn (Judy) of Lawrenceville, GA, and Clint (Francine) of Akron, OH. She was grandmother to Rachael Petter-Lamanna (Pedro) of San Diego, CA, Rebecca Lamanna of Bloomingdale, IL, Renee LaManna of Santa Barbara, CA, Nichole Anderson, Krystin Brookes and Scarlett Towe (Dustin) of Lawrenceville, GA, Melissa Anderson and Jessica Walker of the Atlanta area, Kasey (Sarah), Karleigh, Kora Ann, Kyler Anderson of Coats, NC and Pfc. Kody Anderson of the USMC. She is also survived by seven great-grandsons, Arri, Andrew, Sebastian, Killian, Samuel, Liam and Gavin; two great granddaughters, Stella Walker and Reilynn Towe; two great-great grandchildren; one brother, Richard Berk (Norma) of Viera, FL; sisters-in-law, Jeanne Heilmann of Scottsdale, AZ, Carla Schaeffer (Paul) of Lincolnton, NC and Ruth Williams of Houston, TX; and nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Resurrection Lutheran Church,100 W. Lochmere Drive, Cary, NC 27518, on January 19, 2019 at 10am with Pastor Jon presiding. Inurnment will be in the church columbarium. Reception immediately after the service in the fellowship hall.
