Ruth attended Mercy High School in Milwaukee, Wis., before attending Alverno College. While at Alverno she also enjoyed performing with the Milwaukee Players, a local theatre group, where she met her husband Donald Rudd. She began her career by teaching English at Pius XI High School while attending Marquette University to obtain her Master’s Degree in speech and drama. She was later asked to return to Alverno College to teach there. Her teaching career was put on hold after marriage to Donald Rudd and the raising of 7 children. Ruth returned to teaching for many years at Somers High School. There she was affectionately known as “Mom” and was beloved both by the staff and her students. Ruth truly enjoyed teaching and often reflected fondly of the nuns at Alverno or the wonderful comradery with the Somers staff. She found great satisfaction educating students while helping them develop into young adults.
Teaching, family and friends were Ruth’s passion and delight. She loved to entertain and host dinner parties. She cherished having family over for dinner and preparing meals for everyone. Ruth loved to read and shared her love of books with both her friends and children. She also loved to travel and spent time in England, Germany, Greece, France and Denmark. She had a passion for sewing, knitting, cross stitching, and gardening.
Ruth is survived by her brother, Jim Lehmann and her sister Betty Lehmann Bruce, along with her children Rick, Greg, MaryClare, Kurt, Kristen, Carla, and Ellen as well as many loving grandchildren. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends.
