OBITUARY
Sandra Jones Archer
December 9, 1944 – April 21, 2013
Sandra Elizabeth Jones Archer died April 21, 2013 at Rex Healthcare in Raleigh. She was born to the late William Morton and Elizabeth Ann Johnson Jones on December 9, 1944 in Miami, Florida, where her father had his first pastorate at the First Baptist Church of Hialeah. Sandra grew up in South Carolina where she graduated from Walterboro High School and from Furman University in Greenville, SC with a BA in Spanish. She used her Spanish throughout the years as she taught in the public school system, tutored privately in her home, volunteered translation wherever needed and was the clerk of the New Hope Presbytery Commission to start the first Hispanic church in Wake County.
After moving to Raleigh, she started her own business in 1981. For 30 years she owned and operated Kennedy Archer, a multi-service marketing and advertising firm. She served on the Board of Directors of Urban Ministries and was hired as the agency’s first Development Director. She also was a Board member of Camp Oak Hill and assisted with the capital campaign. Most recently, she served as a board member at St. Savior’s Center where she was communications chair. She was involved in many of the programs at White Memorial Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon and an elder. She played the piano in her Sunday School class for many years, but her real love and greatest joy was being the Bible moderator for Circle I, the Springmoor Circle of Presbyterian Women. She was proud to be one of the “town” ladies. For faithful service to the mission of the church, she received the Presbyterian Women Honorary Life Membership award in 2009. Above all else, she loved her girls, Laura and Lee Ann. In her later years she treasured the time spent with her grandchildren teaching them all about the birds that God created and all about his son, Jesus.
Sandra is survived by her husband and best friend, James Philip Archer of Raleigh and her precious daughters, Laura Elizabeth Kennedy Bland (James) of Winston-Salem, and Lee Ann Kennedy of Raleigh; two beloved grandchildren, James (Jay) Earl Bland III and Olivia Thornton Bland; brothers and sisters, Linda Jones McLellan (Tom), Carey William Jones (Joette), Paula Jones Compton (John), Justin Wright Jones (Lisa); several nieces and nephews: Tommy, Amy, Carey, Jack, Jordan, Thomas, Jared and Ryan.
A celebration of her life will be held at White Memorial Presbyterian Church at 2pm on Wednesday, April 24, 2013. The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the Jane Bell Gathering Space.
The family would like to thank the staff of Rex ICU for their exceptional care and support.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to White Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1704 Oberlin Rd, Raleigh, NC 27608; or charity of your choice.
Condolences may be sent to www.BrownWynne.com

Dear JP, Laura & Lee Ann: Sandra was one of the first people who made me feel welcomed in Raleigh. I worked with her on Boone's Antiques and other clients in the early 1980s. She got my husband and me involved in Urban Ministries. Perhaps most memorable was the day she took me to a tobacco auction in Wilson! She was a force of nature. She talked about you often. She will be greatly missed, I know for sure.

I was so sorry to read about Mrs. Archer today, though your family does not know me, I met Mrs. Archer as she was a customer at The Party Shop in CV and I would often wait on her, she was always so sweet, and I could always tell when she was having a bad day. I had missed seeing her and will in the days to come. Prayers to your family.

My heart goes out to you all, I only knew Sandra for a short time. She came and got manicures, and only from the few times I spent with her I learned she was a woman of god, a sweet caring person. You all will be in my thoughts and prayers. ~Amanda Williford~

Señora Archer was one of my great heroes in this life. She was truly an incredible person who touched everyone she knew. I cannot think about her without tearing up, because of who she was and what she meant to me. She was an encourager; she was a prayer warrior; she was an example for me and to many. She helped me graduate high school...without her help in Spanish I would not have made it. She loved both of her daughters more than anyone I have ever known...Lee Ann and Laura, you are blessed to have had such an incredible mother. I saw Sandra over Easter and what a special memory that is...we had the best time catching up. She was asking me about me, my parents, siblings, and family. She always cared about others...in a sincere way that I will never forget. What a wonderful life she had and I look forward to seeing her in heaven when we are reunited with our Lord. Rest in peace Mrs. Archer.
