November 11, 1993 – September 4, 2010
On Saturday, September 4, 2010 at 7:00 a.m. Shantel K. Bryant, 16, lost her battle with Cystic Fibrosis and for the first time was able to breathe as she ran through the gates of Heaven.
Shantel was an incredible young lady and a true gift from God. She captured your heart forever from the first time she smiled at you. Shantel never let her disease keep her from embracing life. She had a fierce determination in everything she tackled. Whether it was at home spending time with her dogs Molly and Majure, going to a Sugarland concert, or doing her Awana book, she always put her entire self into it. Her sweet spirit and big heart was evident everyday in her laugh, her love for the people in her life, her concern for others, and her love of God.
She never met a stranger. Shantel made a lasting imprint on all who knew her. She may have struggled to breathe but she took your breath away with her kindness, silliness, and love.
Shantel will be tremendously missed by so many but mostly her parents, Deborah Burchfield and Melodie Bagg; her dogs she called “her babies”, Molly and Majure; grandparents, Nimmy and Papa Burchfield; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and her large extended Duke University Medical Center Family.
A Celebration of Shantel’s Life will be held Thursday, September 9, 2010, 11:00 a.m. at Colonial Baptist Church, 6051 Tryon Rd, Cary.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 8, 2010, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard, Cary.
In lieu of flowers, Deb and Melodie request a donation in Shantel’s honor to: Shantel Bryant Fund, Duke University, Duke Children’s Development Office, 512 S. Mangum St. Suite 400, Durham, NC 27701.
