

She was born in Bristol, CT on May 10th, 1945, to Colonel William "Skip" Beard and Sara "Sally" Scott. She was married to Glenn Townley for 57 years.
Shelley graduated from the University of Delaware in 1968 with a BAAS degree in Social Studies and spent her early career as a Social Worker working for various branches of the Social Security Administration.
She switched careers later in life, completing a rigorous certification program to become a licensed Customs Broker, working for Rogers & Brown and then Michelin North America.
Shelley was an intelligent, soft-spoken, kind and gentle soul. She also showed exceptional patience, strength and determination whenever she committed to a goal. She was charitable and civic-minded, often volunteering her time in support of various local charities, school and political organizations.
She was also a talented artist, leaving behind several treasured sketches and paintings. She enjoyed reading, nature walks, and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her father Skip, mother Sally, and older sister Susy.
She is survived by her husband Glenn, children Scott (Christa) and Mark (Marie), grandchildren Blake, Sean, Mason and Andrew, four siblings Scott, John, Sandy and Betsy, fifteen nieces and nephews and many other loving extended family members.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund as a meaningful way to honor her memory and help advance the fight against Alzheimer's.
