Sherry I. Bench, 75, of Cary, NC died Friday October 11, 2019 at Transitions LifeCare of Raleigh after a two and a half year battle with lung cancer. Sherry was born in Washington, DC to Dorothy (Donahue) and Glenn F. Bailey, on October 1, 1944. She was predeceased by her parents Glenn and Dorothy Bailey, and her brother, Richard Bailey. She is survived by her husband, David Bench of Cary, daughter Michele Bench Goodman (Eric) of Cary, son Mark A. Bench (Laura) of Apex, NC, and granddaughters Lily and Madeleine Goodman of Cary. She is also survived by her sister Robin Barrett of Cary, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Sherry spent most of her young life in the Fairmount area of the Town of Camillus, NY. After graduating from West Genesee High School in 1962, she spent 10 years at New York Telephone before taking a role as “World’s Greatest Mom.” She loved crafting and her garden, and she never met a wall she didn’t want to paint or wallpaper. Cooking was not her favorite activity, but there was always a seat at the table for a friend. The family relocated to Cary, NC in 1987. Before retirement, she worked at True Value Hardware, Kerr Drug, and Eckerd Drug in Cary.
Visitation will take place in the Gathering Space at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 804 High House Rd, Cary, NC from 10-11am on Tuesday, October 22, 2019. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11am. Her ashes will be interred in St. Michael Columbarium following the funeral.
