

She grew up in Brooklyn, NY and attended New York University (NYU) where she met David Levin. In 1942, before he left to serve in the Pacific during WWII, they married. After the war they moved to Lynchburg, Virginia where they lived for over 60 years, raising a family and becoming an active part of the community. Shirley was a member of the Augudath Sholom Congregation and very involved with both Sisterhood and Hadassah.
Shirley is survived by her husband David Levin of Morrisville, NC and formerly of Lynchburg, VA; daughters Jill Grosman and her husband Barry of Cary, NC and Peggy Sue Salwen and her husband Peter of New York, NY; grandsons Mark Kremer, James Salwen and William Salwen; devoted niece Pam Stonebarger; and other loving family members.
A Minyan will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 7:30 pm from the Rex Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center of Apex, 911 South Hughes St., Apex, NC 27502. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
