Sylvia Sue Harmon

Sylvia Sue Harmon, age 80, of Raleigh, North Carolina passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2023. Sue was born September 24, 1942 in Whiteville, NC; the only child of the late John Nathan Stocks and Kathleen Hardie Stocks. She was a loving mother and grandma, caring friend and worshiper of the Lord.

She is survived by her son: Chad Teel and daughter-in-law Lori Teel, of Fuquay-Varina; grandchildren: Emma Grace and Chase Teel; and other extended family and friends.

Sue grew up in Whiteville where she was on the High School Cheerleading team. She loved to spend summer days at Lake Waccamaw and take day trips on the train to Wilmington. She was always helping her mom, Kathleen around the house and loved playing with her cousins. After graduating from high school in Whiteville, she attended East Carolina University, before later transferring to Kings College in Raleigh.

Sue married Robert “Bobby” Teel Jr. and together they had one child, Chad Teel. Sue began working for IBM in the 70’s where she was an Administrative and Managerial Assistant through most of her career. Sue and Bobby divorced in 1982 and she later married Sam Harmon.

She retired from IBM and enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and always up for a day of shopping! Sue and Sam divorced in mid-2000’s.

Sue was very involved with Greystone Baptist Church. She enjoyed doing flower arrangements and helping with gathering clothes for the needy in Raleigh. She moved into Independent Living at Whispering Pines, right next to her church on Leadmine Rd. and was there for about 3.5yrs. She moved into Assisted Living at Heartfields in Cary in 2016 and then about 1.5yrs ago into their Memory Care program.

A memorial service celebrating Sue’s life will be held Friday, March 3, 2023 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary, with family to receive friends following.
