Thomas Stephen Toomey, “Steve,” age 85, of Cary, North Carolina passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023. Thomas was born in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Mr. Toomey served his country in peace time with distinction and dedication. Serving was his second greatest accomplishment preceded only by his pride and joy in being a husband and father.
Mr. Toomey was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Houston Toomey and Mary Lou (Austin) Toomey Savel, his stepfather, Martin J. Savel, and his sisters, Bettye J. Schumacher and Nancy L. Norris. He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved and devoted wife Sharon Jane (Randels) Toomey. He is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Allison Toomey and his twin granddaughters, Della Austin Toomey and Caroline Essex Toomey all of Apex; one sister, Sandra L. (Jim) Williams of Arizona, one sister-in-law, Edith M. (Peter) Rich of New Jersey and countless nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Mr. Toomey will be held Thursday, April 6, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home Chapel in Cary. The service will be officiated by Pastor Laura Johnson of Apex United Methodist Church. Military honors will be rendered at this time. Following services in North Carolina, the Toomey family will gather again in Ohio on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. for his interment at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Massillon, Ohio.
