

Tony C. Odom, 86, passed away August 31, 2010 at home with his family, after a long fight with Parkinson’s. Tony was born March 3, 1924, in Moore County, NC, to Thaddeus and Allie Mae Odom. He had three brothers and one sister. Tony grew up in NC and joined the US Army at age sixteen. Tony served as a medic with multiple stateside assignments and a European assignment during WWII, with the 10th Armored Infantry Division. He reached the rank of Staff Sergeant and received the Combat Medic Badge and a Silver Star for gallantry during his combat tour. Tony returned to the states and was honorably discharged when WWII ended. Tony began working for Esso in 1946, soon after his homecoming. He worked for Esso/Exxon in many positions including a tanker truck driver, for 36 years and retired in 1982. Tony shared his retirement with his friends and family at Kerr Lake, his favorite get-a way. He was preceded in death by his mother Allie Mae in 1932, his father Thaddeus in 1973, his wife Sue Ford Odom in 1980, his daughter Toni Jean in 1998, and his daughter Mary Sue in 2002. He is survived by his daughter Tammy Odom Reeves and her husband Freddy, his grandkids Kelly, Journey and Garrett. We will all miss you “Did"/"Grandy”, you will always be our hero.
Viewing will be held at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 S.E. Maynard Road, Cary, NC on Thursday September 2, 2010 from 6-8 pm. Services will be held at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home with interment immediately following at Hillcrest Cemetery, Page Street Cary, NC 27511 on Friday September 3, 2010 at 12 pm.
