

Vernon Wayne Langley, known affectionately as Wayne, passed away on September 8, 2024, at the age of 81 in Raleigh, North Carolina. Born on March 23, 1943, in Greenville, North Carolina, Wayne devoted his life to service and community.
Wayne graduated from Winterville High School and furthered his education at The Salvation Army Evangeline Booth College in Atlanta, Georgia. His career was marked by a deep commitment to The Salvation Army, where he served as an officer for 17 years in various locations including Hot Springs, Washington, and Waynesville, NC. He also held significant administrative roles at the Salvation Army ARC in Atlanta, Miami, and Tulsa. Later, he moved to Raleigh, where he worked as Administrator at South Hill Mall and part-time at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home. He founded Purity Mobile Sanitizing, working alongside his sons until his retirement.
A man of deep faith, Wayne was a devout member of The Salvation Army, dedicating his life to worship and community service. His early years included volunteering as a firefighter and rescue squad member at the Greenville Fire Department. He operated Camp Bonner in Washington, NC, providing summer camp experiences for youth, and served as a Boy Scout Troop leader and a member of The Lions Club.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Marie Langley; children, Bonnie and Chris Miller, Lissa and Bryan Jones, Russell and Cara Langley, Robert "Duke" Langley, Kathy and Greg Edmundson, Michael and Cyndy Sowder; grandchildren, Stephanie and Mike Andrews, Britta and Lance Fite, Braden and Heather Johnson, Christopher and Alyssa Jones, Gabe Jones, Kayla and Jeramiah Makowski, Joy Langley, Hope and Alyssa Cummins, Evan Langley, Renee and Blake Esrey, Ryan Edmundson, Nathan and Marina Sowder, and Emily and Michael Fuerst; great-grandchildren, Breleigh and Maddon Andrews, Ruger Wayne Johnson, Judah Makowski, Rowan Esrey,Joey Sowder and Quincy Fite. He also leaves behind siblings Floyd and Joyce Langley, Gene and Faye Langley, Ken and Jackie Langley, Rick and Angie Langley, Sheryl and Keith Gardner, and Charlie and Frankie Langley, Michael Langley. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Shirley Langley, Elaine Nichols, Jack Langley, and Melton Langley.
Services will be held on Sunday, September 15th, 2024, at 1:30 pm at the First Free Will Baptist Church of Greenville, located at 2426 S. Charles Blvd., Greenville, NC 27858. Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Raleigh, NC, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
