Virgina Piper Olmsted of Cary, North Carolina passed away peacefully on Tuesday September 14, 2021. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years Hughie Olmsted and daughter Margaret Olmsted Desern both of Cary. She is survived by sons Tim Olmsted of Cary, Mark Louden of Raleigh, grandsons John “JT” Desern of Indianapolis, IN, Kyle Desern of Northern California , two great-grandchildren Jake and Vera Kate Desern of Indianapolis, IN, brother Richard Piper of Sunset, UT and many nieces and nephews.
She was born Virgina Elane Piper, on September 6, 1925 in Valentine, Nebraska to Herbert and Irene Piper and had just recently celebrated her 96th birthday. She was one of 8 children, 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Maxine Means of Gig Harbor WA, Jim Piper of Ripon, CA, Marietta Berry of Orting, Wa, Richard Piper of Sunset, UT, Donald Piper of San Jose, CA, Patricia Tollett of Hampton, Va and Terry Piper of Little River, SC. Her goal was to live as long as her oldest sister, they both lived to be 96 years old.
Virgina and Hughie owned and operated the Magic Corner, in downtown Raleigh for over 25 years. They were part of the local chapter of Linking Rings, a magician’s society, and enjoyed watching and performing illusions for all ages. In addition to being part of the magic community, Virginia loved NC State basketball and water aerobics.
Virginia was a kind and generous person who loved to laugh and entertain her family. Nobody ever left hungry from her table! She was the kind of person that her word was her bond and if she said it, “You could take it to the bank”. Her life was a testimony to hard work and perseverance. She was someone you would be proud to call her your friend!
