Wheeler George Sweezey

Wheeler George Sweezey, of Morrisville, NC and formerly of Freeport, New York, passed away on June 19, 2023. Born on June 15, 1939, in Oceanside, Long Island, NY; he was the son of the late Wheeler Matthew Sweezey and Bonnie Brook Sweezey.

Wheeler served in the US Navy from 1958-1962. He worked for the United Parcel Service (UPS) for 30 years. Known as the “Master Fixer”, he was always lending a hand for home and auto repairs to his friends and neighbors in Freeport and Port Orange Florida.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 60 years (married June 22, 1963): Catherine O’Brien Sweezey; brother: James Sweezey and wife Marcia Sweezey; son: Jeffrey Sweezey and wife Trisha Sweezey; daughter: Suzanne Sweezey Anderson and boyfriend Mike Hughes (also caregiver to Wheeler during the last several months); grandchildren: Johanna Sweezey, Theresa Sweezey, Jeffrey Sweezey, Ashley Anderson and Michael Anderson; and by other family and friends.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023, at 11AM at Mother Teresa Catholic Church in Cary, NC. Inurnment will follow at the church columbarium.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
