

Bill was born to late William and Sally Hennis on January 18, 1930 in High Point, NC. Bill earned his PhD in Education from Duke in 1962. He worked at the State Department of Public Instruction in Raleigh until he retired in 1991. He married the love of his life, Eleanor Settlemyre, on April 4, 1953 in Drexel, NC. They moved to Cary in 1962 and never left.
Bill was an active member of White Plains UMC for over 50 years. He taught Sunday School and was the Church Historian. He was active in the Cary Lions Club and the Cary Senior Center.
Bill is survived by three sons: William McKinley III of Ft Lauderdale, FL with his wife Rachel Day; David of Miami, FL; and Michael of Kernersville, NC and his wife Sharon. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Daniel, Matt, and Kara Hennis of Florida and Morgan Shaw of Kernersville and one great granddaughter: Emma Grace Shaw.
The funeral service will be held at White Plains United Methodist Church 313 SE Maynard Rd. Cary on Tuesday August 29 at 2 o’clock . A reception will follow in the church.
