William Thomas Lessig

William Thomas Lessig passed peacefully from this world on August 3rd, 2020 following a short illness.

Bill, as he was affectionately known, was born in Charlotte, NC on May 18th, 1935 to Claude Alfred Lessig, Sr. and Stella Hodge Lessig. He is survived by his sons Michael Lessig (Janet), Craig Lessig (Charlotte), and daughter Cynthia Lessig Arneson (Steve). Grandchildren Heather Jones, Haley Lessig, Stephen and Danielle Arneson, and Alex Staley and four great-grandchildren. Bill was predeceased by his parents, his brother Claude A. Lessig, Jr., and his daughter Michelle Lessig Jones.

Bill grew up in Durham, NC. After spending his high school years at Carlisle Military School, he went on to serve his country in the US Army. He was stationed at Ft. Richardson Alaska. He attended both Georgia Tech and BYU where he studied engineering. Bill was a man of many talents and served in several jobs.

He retired from the City of Durham where he was the Central Services Supervisor. Outside of work, Bill served as a volunteer with the Orange County Emergency Services as an EMT and Paramedic. He enjoyed traveling and was also an avid reader. At the age of eighty, he authored a book of his own, “Mystic Mountain”. He was always full of life and brought much joy to the many who knew him.
