

William David Perkinson died peacefully at his home in Cary on Dec. 20, 2016, surrounded by his beloved family. He was an exemplary son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, neighbor, community member and blessed the lives of his family and friends.
David was born in Roanoke Rapids, N.C., on July 31, 1939, to William Horace and Lora Gladys (Myrick) Perkinson. He graduated from Norlina High School, where he starred on the varsity basketball and football teams. He received his B.A. in mathematics from North Carolina State University in 1962. David married Lorraine Harris of Arcola, N.C., on June 30, 1962, and he worked for the Social Security Administration until his retirement. He and Lorraine moved to Cary in 1975 and have been active members of White Plains United Methodist Church. For many years, he and Lorraine were part of the award-winning Cary Cross-trailers square dancing team. He modeled a life of character, generosity and faith for his children and grandchildren, who adored him as “Pa.”
David was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John (Rose) Perkinson of Raleigh, N.C. He is survived by his three children: Sharon (John) Flesher of Traverse City, Mich., Susan (Altug) Sipal of Pittsboro, N.C., and William David Jr. (Maria) of Warrenton, N.C., plus seven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at White Plains United Methodist Church in Cary, N.C., at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 23, followed by a graveside service at 3 p.m. at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Arcola, N.C.
