Bill was born on March 13, 1947 in Suffern, NY. He received his undergraduate degree from Northeastern University in Boston, MA and graduate degree from Union College in NY. He married Julie Marie Thackara on March 24, 1970 and settled in Wappingers Falls, NY. They raised two children, Kristi and Scott.
Bill worked at IBM for the span of his professional career, over 45 years. Upon retirement, he became a full-time grandfather and spent an enormous amount of time with his grandkids who called him "Baba" and loved him dearly.
He was known as an extremely intelligent and pragmatic man who loved solving problems for family and friends. He had a reputation for having the right tool for every job, if not two or three, assuming he could find them.
While perceived as quiet, he had a good sense of humor and a big heart. He will be remembered as a great family man and provider, who would do anything for his children and grandchildren. He loved to spend time with family and friends at his cabin in Piseco, NY and later at his beach house in N. Myrtle Beach, SC. Most of all, he loved his wife Julie and their marriage of over 48 years.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents William and Dorothy Wood. He is survived by his wife Julie, his daughter Kristi and her husband Ken, his son Scott and his wife Lissy, and his grandchildren Davis, Emerson, Carly and Graham.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary.
