A Letter from Aidan
Mom,
I can’t believe you’re gone. It feels like yesterday that my brother and I were deciding which animal to get pressed into a penny that you gave us at the Phoenix Zoo.
I remember the love I felt whenever you would send me a song, teach me to drive, cook with me, or give me that smile when I would come back from school. I’ll always remember walking to your work after school and how you would buy me snacks and a drink. Even though I knew we were struggling, you would always try. You always found a way to make my dreams come true.
You supported me even though you didn’t always like my choices. I’ll never forget the time you drove me back home through a monsoon storm after a baseball game. I was so scared, but you comforted me and told me everything was going to be okay, even though you didn’t know that yourself.
You affected so many lives, and now that you’re gone, it feels like there is a hole in my chest that nothing can fix. Mom, you will be missed by so many people.
I promise to make sure that my son knows how much you loved him. I promise that whenever I have to make an impossible decision, I’ll always think about what you would do.
I love you so much, and I’ll never stop loving you. Thank you for all the memories we shared together. I can’t wait to see you again.
Love,
Aidan Drake Corey
Wynken, Blynken, and Nod
By Eugene Field
Wynken, Blynken, and Nod one night
Sailed off in a wooden shoe—
Sailed on a river of crystal light,
Into a sea of dew.
“Where are you going, and what do you wish?”
The old Moon asked the three.
“We have come to fish for the herring-fish
That live in this beautiful sea;
Nets of silver and gold have we!”
Said Wynken,
Blynken,
And Nod.
The old Moon laughed and sang a song,
As they rocked in the wooden shoe;
And the wind that sped them all night long
Ruffled the waves of dew.
The little stars were the herring-fish
That lived in the beautiful sea.
“Now cast your nets wherever you wish—
Never afraid are we”;
So cried the stars to the fishermen three:
Wynken,
Blynken,
And Nod.
All night long their nets they threw
To the stars in the twinkling foam—
Then down from the skies came the wooden shoe,
Bringing the fishermen home;
’Twas all so pretty a sail it seemed
As if it could not be,
And some folks thought ’twas a dream they’d dreamed
Of sailing that beautiful sea;
But I shall name you the fishermen three:
Wynken,
Blynken,
And Nod.
Wynken and Blynken are two little eyes,
And Nod is a little head,
And the wooden shoe that sailed the skies
Is a wee one’s trundle-bed.
So shut your eyes while Mother sings
Of wonderful sights that be,
And you shall see the beautiful things
As you rock in the misty sea,
Where the old shoe rocked the fishermen three:
Wynken,
Blynken,
And Nod.

A Lasting Tribute
Don’t grieve for me now im free
I’m following the way god laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work or play
Tasks left undone must stay that way
I found my peace at the close of day
If my parting has left a void
Then fill it with remembering joy
A friendship shared a laugh, a kiss
Oh yes these things i too will miss
Be not burdened with these times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
My life's been filled, I've savored much—
Good friends, good times, and loved ones' touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief;
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts and share with me,
God wanted me now; He set me free.
