A natural presence in the lives of others, Hilda was outgoing and known for the work of her hands as a basket weaver. Her hard work also showed through in the many ways she gave her time—serving as a member of several committees, Saint Francis committee, Cursillo Movement, and as a member of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha. Through church groups and with family, she traveled out of state, carrying with her a willingness to connect, to serve, and to be present wherever she was needed. In her community, she was someone people could count on—helping with cooking and offering assistance wherever she could.
Hilda is survived by her children, Manuelita, Manita and Melford Garcia; six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Christine Lopez and Vincent Domingo; her husband, Manuel J. Garcia; a son, Melvin Garcia; and two grandchildren, Aaron and Teneia.
An All-night wake service will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at San Francisco Xavier Church in Palo Verde Stand with a mass held at 7:00 p.m. Burial will follow at San Francisco Cemetery, at 5:00 a.m. Tohono O'odham Nation.
