Jim Underly was born in Niles, Michigan to Evelyn F (Blankert) and Otto L Underly Sr. on January 25, 1947. He was the youngest of four. Otto L Jr, Robert J. and Virginia(Ginny)Jastrzebski. All preceded him in death. Jim and Barb were blessed with two children; JimII of Indianapolis and a daughter, she has distanced herself from the family. Jim was an exceptionally kind and generous husband and father. He played football, baseball and wrestling at South Bend Central 1964/65. He was to have graduated in 1965 but due to a car accident he did withdraw. On May 2,1970 Jim married Barbara Poehlman, they enjoyed nearly 55 years of sharing their likes of sports, camping,travel and enjoying the beauty this country,and enjoyed sharing it with their children.
He was an entrepreneur in South Bend and Elkhart. He owned and operated Kehres Painting, Mishawaka Laundromat, Santino's bar and nightclub, Elkhart and Michiana Mobile Lube.
They were workcampers for several years and enjoyed traveling and working in Alaska, New York and nearly every state. He moved to Arizona in 2019 with his wife and enjoyed traveling and the desert. Jim was cremated and ashes spread at Gates Pass, Arizona as he requested.
