Born April 3, 1941 in Coudersport, Pennsylvania to parents Harry and Mildred (Swan) Rawson, Nellie Jean (Rawson) Revelle, received her angel wings on April 18, 2025 in Gilbert, Arizona. She joined her husband, Donald; daughters, Cheryl Ann (Revelle) Ewing and Debra Jean Revelle; grandson, Kyle Kristopher Matsko; as well as countless other family members and friends. She is survived by her oldest daughter, Karen Lynn (Revelle) Thompson and grandson Clayton Edison Moose; granddaughter Courtney Jean Woo (Shandon Stump) and great-granddaughters Taizley Don Martinez-Woo and Teagan Lee-Ann Stump; grandson, Ryan Donald Revelle (Felicia Corso) and great-granddaughter, Amelia Ann Revelle and bonus great-grandson Skyler Braik; and Godchildren Tracyann (Swan) Misener and Thomas Richter, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Nellie grew up in Cheektowaga, New York, a suburb of Buffalo, and graduated from Maryvale High School. She began working as a secretary after high school which led her to American Airlines where she met and fell in love with Don. They were married on October 12, 1963 in New York, but relocated to Hawthorne, California in 1964 to escape the brutal snowy winters. Nellie and Don lovingly raised three daughters. During their elementary school years, Nellie volunteered at the girls' school and in the PTA, and was recognized as a Ramona Elementary School Founder's Day award recipient. She was also a team mother, snack stand volunteer and score keeper for countless Hawthorne American Little League softball games. As her girls grew older, Nellie worked outside the home for Sears, JC Penney and Superior Draperies & Floor Coverings. She was also a volunteer committee member for several City of Hawthorne mayoral and city council campaigns and was a professional cake decorator. Nellie was always up for a good time; whether it was crafting with friends, an outing to get pie in the middle of the night or climbing on the back of a Harley for a motorcycle ride on her 70th birthday.
Once Don retired from American Airlines in 1992, the couple moved to Dayton, Nevada and built their dream home. They loved being near their grandchildren and also took epic vacations to Nashville and Hawaii, as well as trips East to New York, Pennsylvania and Canada to visit family. Nellie spent 15 years working as the Parish Secretary at St. Paul's Lutheran Family in Carson City and made Eucharistic visits, bringing communion, to shut-ins. Once Don passed away, Nellie began traveling with Karen and they enjoyed trips to Branson, Savannah and Walt Disney World, to name a few. In 2005, it was time to downsize, so Nellie moved to a senior apartment complex, Christina Court, in Carson City. She stayed there making friends and memories until 2023 when she moved to Gilbert, Arizona to live with Karen, Clayton and their dog, Tucker. Nellie became a member of Christ Greenfield Lutheran Church and attended plays, concerts and shows with Karen as often as possible. She enjoyed rooting for the Buffalo Bills, watching Hallmark movies, listening to Clayton play his flute and FaceTime calls with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Nevada.
Over the years Nellie's favorite pastimes included playing Bunco (with some wine), bowling competitively, playing and listening to music, reading for Book Club, creating needlework Christmas stockings, and crocheting. Known jokingly by many as Queen, Queeny, or HRH, her most favorite titles were Mom, Granny and Gigi. Nellie was known and admired for her loving heart, giving spirit, quick wit, infectious humor, talented writing, and her unshakable faith. Brought up Lutheran, Nellie raised her daughters as Lutherans and influenced a Lutheran upbringing for her grandchildren, too. She took comfort in the words of the 23rd Psalm and did not fear death. Nellie earned her eternal crown. To paraphrase 2 Timothy 4:7, "She fought the good fight, she finished the race, she kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for her a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous one, will give her."
Final arrangements have been entrusted to J Warren Funeral Services, Casa Grande, Arizona. A Celebration of Life for Nellie will occur on June 21 at 10:00 a.m. at Walton's Chapel of the Valley, 1281 N. Roop Street, Carson City, Nevada followed by interment of her ashes in Carson City's Lone Mountain Veterans Cemetery alongside her husband, Donald. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested in her memory to Christ Greenfield Lutheran Church (Gilbert Campus), Gilbert, Arizona, https://ppay.co/vzYPfgVg7Oc
