Alfred John Dyk was born in Denver, Colorado on February 3, 1943. He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1961 and went on to attend Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. He served in the Colorado National Guard Army Division from 1964-1970. Al married his wife, Judy Lynn, in 1966. They were married for nearly 47 years at the time of his death.
Judy and Al welcomed their daughter Shannon Marie in 1967 and their son Scott Arend in 1970. Al enjoyed coaching soccer and football for many years for his children and grandsons. He was not only a member of the Masons, but also part of the Mountain Men, a Black Powder Gun Club, the Model Railroad Club, and a Model T Club. Al was also an avid train lover. He collected trains, built intricate model train sets, and loved riding trains as well. Judy loves to tell the story of how Al was a true greaser at heart and loved listening to hours of old radio programs and doo-wop music.
Al passed away peacefully on July 4, 2013. He is survived by his wife Judy, children Shannon and Scott (Megan), and 5 grandchildren: Justin, Derek, Collin, Bailey, and Ryann. He will be greatly missed and remembered for his sense of humor, his laugh, and his larger than life gourmet cooking.
Family and friends will be celebrating his life on Sunday, July 14, 2013 at 4 p.m. the Friends of Horses facility located at 6351 S. Peoria St., Centennial, CO 80111.
