Baird, Barbara Ann - Of Perry Maine, formally of Castle Rock, CO age 83, passed away peacefully and in the loving care of her family in Castle Rock due to late stage Alzheimers
Barbara was born in Bakersfield, CA. on January 3, 1938, daughter of the late Rufus M. and Pluma A. (Cole) Kuykendall. She married Richard S. Baird on October 24, 1981. She is proceeded in death by her parents, two brothers, Billy Ray (Bill) and Darrell Kuykendall, her eldest daughter Deborah (Johnson-Cash) Simington, and step-son Matthew Baird.
Barbara was a loving wife and homemaker. Prior to retirement, she was an accountant and bookkeeper for large retail stores and credit unions in Colorado Springs, CO. She had a deep love for the history of the places she lived. She was an active member of the Castle Rock Historic society and volunteered much of her time to the Colorado Cancer Society and member of the 2nd Baptist Church of Calais, ME. Although born in CA, she lived most of her life in Colorado, and claimed herself as being “Colorado Native”, but always dreamed of living near the water. Eleven years ago, she had her dream come true as she and husband, Richard (Ricky) found their lake-front dream house along the shoreline of Boyden Lake in Perry, Maine. She cherished her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved spending every moment she could with them. A very fond memory of this was when it was time to leave, she would “get-a-move” on her walker as fast as she could to get away from Ricky, pretending not to hear him calling for her. Barbara had many challenges given to her. Married very young, she had been widowed twice by only the age of 25. Raising four baby girls primarily on her own, she instilled true family values and encouraged us to be individuals, show pride in ourselves, to be compassionate and forgiving of others, love of nation and love of GOD. She rekindled a childhood friendship with a very nice guy, Richard (Ricky) Baird, that turned into 40 years of a loving life together. They have had a wonderful time traveling all over the US in their motorhome, going on many cruises and touring Western Europe. Barbara easily made friends and all who knew her has many fond memories of a loving, smart, creative, humorous, yet incredibly strong, ornery, stubborn and feisty little gal. She will be lovingly missed by all who knew her.
Barbara is survived by husband, Richard (Ricky) Baird; daughters, Kathy (Paul) Lee of Dolores, CO, Karen (Brian) of Castle Rock, CO and Deanna (Steve) Janney of Willow Springs, NC; Step-son, Michael Baird; Grandchildren; Brian Simington, Jeff (Nichole) Lee, Stephanie (Kyle) Lee-Ewing, Jermey Lee, Brittney (Luke) Mitkowski, Brent (Alyssa) Birdsinger and Payton Baird; Great Grandchildren; Martin, Orla, Gavin, Abby, Maycie, Cloe’,Kira, Evelyne, Alexis, Melody, Noah, Lily, Autumn, Austin and Audison; Nephew; Darrell (Sonya) Kuykendall and Grand Niece and Nephew, Anna and Graham.
