

Benjamin (Ben) J. Curtis, entered into eternal life on January 31, 2016 at Cherrelyn Healthcare Center where he was undergoing rehabilitative care. He was 92 years young. He was waiting for a blessed day of the baptism of his 2nd great granddaughter that afternoon.
The good Lord called him home while napping before lunch.
Ben J. was born March 7th 1923 in West Des Moines, Iowa to Joseph and Rosalie Caruso. He served his country while in the Air force in WWll and was honorably discharged in 1947 due to an injury incurred while serving.
Ben J. married Elizabeth Scigliano in 1955 and together had children, Daughter Rosalie Ann and Son Albert Joseph.
In the 1950-60’s he owned and operated Salon Caruso with his wife for many years in downtown Des Moines. He dedicated his life to his family and volunteering at the VA hospital in Des Moines for over 35 years. Dad made beautiful music singing playing his guitar or on one of many harmonicas for the veterans and offered them his time, and kindness. He moved to Colorado to be closer to his family in 2008 enjoying independent living until January 2015. Papa always set an example of kindness, a giving sprit, and a glorious positive attitude. Papa’s wish for a long, healthy and happy life had been granted and is an inspiration to us all. Papa provided years and years of enjoyment to everyone he met through his music.
He is followed in death by his wife Elizabeth (Betty)
Papa will be missed dearly by his son Albert.
Daughter Rosalie (Rose) and Patrick his son in law.
Grandson Nicholas Patrick Essy (Katelyn Boesen) and great grand daughter Mila Rose Essy.
Grand daughter Lauren Marie Essy-Bruno (Santino Bruno) and great grand daughter Isabella Rose Bruno. And his five wonderful family Pets he loved so much. Benjamin was a practicing Catholic his entire life.
A private memorial service will be held for the family.
