Betty Jane (Jackson) Goetzinger passed away at the age of 92 on January 16, 2022 at Castle Rock Adventist Hospital, Colorado. She was born on December 13, 1929 in Eureka, Kansas to Viola Dora (Boone) Jackson and William Offord Jackson.
Betty married Junior John “Jack” Goetzinger on December 11, 1976 in Westminster, CO. She was previously married to Gayle Scott.
She will be remembered for the love and joy she brought to everyone who knew her. Betty always put her family first. She was a role model for her children that all things are possible. If she became interested in something she jumped in whole-heartedly. She wrote short stories, which became published. She was an artist who became known for doing portraits within her community. She brought to life the belief that hard work and dedication can lead to success.
When her children became older Betty began volunteering at the Children’s Asthmatic Research Institute in Denver, which lead to a career in health care. Betty had a long and successful career at St. Anthony’s Hospital, Denver. She began as a Registered Inhalation Therapist, moving to the Director of Respiratory Therapy and rising to the Director of all Ancillary Care Services. One of Betty’s proudest accomplishments was being part of the team that developed The Flight for Life air ambulance service in 1972.
In retirement Betty did not let one moment pass her by without fully investing herself in one of her many passions. She and her loving husband Jack owned the Shade Tree Ranch in Fredrick, Colorado. They raised and showed championship dogs, llamas, rabbits and horses, often traveling cross country in an RV for shows and competitions. In 1992 one of their llamas took the Grand Champion Light/Medium Wool award at the National Western Stock Show. She spun her own wool, wove artifacts, painted, sculpted and belonged to the Red Hats Society. A woman of great faith, Betty was active in churches throughout her life, most recently at New Hope Presbyterian in Castle Rock.
Betty is survived by her three children: Bill (Donna) Scott, Kathleen (Tom) Silverman, and Rebecca (Marty) Anderson; four stepchildren, Greg (Andrea) Goetzinger, Jay (Charity) Goetzinger, Jeff (Julia) Goetzinger and Kurt (Taxi) Goetzinger. Betty was “Grammy” to 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Russ Jackson, Omaha, Nebraska and Sharon Carroll, Riverton, Utah.
She was predeceased by her husband Junior John “Jack” Goetzinger (July 17, 2006).
Betty will be buried at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO on March 11, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on March 11, 2022 at New Hope Presbyterian Church, 3737 New Hope Way, Castle Rock, CO 80109.
Betty lived her life with each day embraced and filled to its fullest, focused on bringing the family together. Those that she leaves behind are grateful for the talent, skills and love of life she shared with us all.
