Charles was born in Salina, Kansas, on May 25, 1937. He dedicated 20 years of his life to serving in the Air Force, retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1980. Following his military service, he worked at the ENT Federal Credit Union for five years. Charles also contributed to his community by serving as the Mayor of Monument, Colorado, for six years while simultaneously working as a postal carrier in Castle Rock, Colorado, for 13 years.
Charles met Patricia Woolman while attending junior college. They dated for two years before marrying on April 26, 1959. He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Wilson; his son, Scott Wilson, and fiancé Sara Vardell; his daughter, Corre "Wilson" Short, and husband Loyd Short. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Loyd J Short II, Cassie N. Hargroves, Haily D. Wilson; and a great-granddaughter, Lilyan R. Hargroves.
In his personal life, Charles was an avid Denver Broncos fan and enjoyed hiking and camping with Patricia in their trailer. His ironic humor, kindness, and dedication to his family and community will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
