CMSgt Chester "Chet" Matthew Paul

CMSgt Chester “Chet” Matthew Paul, 95, died July 15, 2026. Born December 30, 1930, Chet was raised in Green Bay, Wisconsin, where he graduated from Central Catholic High School. He later earned a master’s degree in Procurement Management from Webster University. In recent years, Chet resided in Castle Rock, Colorado.

At 18, Chet joined the United States Air Force, beginning a life defined by steady purpose, hard work, and faithful commitment to those who relied on him. He retired from the Air Force in 1974 with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Continuing his service, he entered civil service in 1977 as a contracting specialist and retired in 1993 as a Contracting Manager with the Department of Defense, USAF. Through decades in uniform and in public service, Chet was known for his dedication and reliability, someone who met responsibility with quiet strength and followed through with care.

Chet met Agnes V. (Keough) Paul, the love of his life, at a military dance. They courted for two years before marrying on June 27, 1953, and together built a life rooted in devotion and shared joy. They welcomed four sons—each born in a different place—while military service carried the family throughout the United States and overseas. Through every move, Chet’s steadfast love anchored home, and his warm humor helped lighten the demands of military life. As a family, they loved to ski, and Chet and Agnes also enjoyed traveling together. After retirement, they lived in Colorado and Massachusetts.

Chet’s interests reflected a curious mind and a generous spirit. He enjoyed golf and skiing, read widely with a special love for world history, and even made beer for a short time. He and Agnes were highly involved in their local Catholic church, and they supported Catholic charities—giving in ways that were sincere, practical, and consistent with the values that guided their lives.

(Parins) Pauls; his sister, Joyce (Pauls) Hurkman/Mummert; his brother-in-law, Neil Hurkman and Earl “Jeff” Mummert; his sister, Betty (Paul’s) King; brother-in-law Steve King; his sister, Mavis (Paul’s) Paterson; his brother-in-law, Don Paterson; his brother-in-law, William Keough; his sister-in-law, Mary Canty; his sister-in-law, Kathleen Kewer; his sister-in-law, Helen Keough; his brother-in-law, Mike Keough; his sister-in-law, Beverly Keough; his brother-in-law, John Keough; his sister-in-law, Jan Keough; and his sister-in-law, Nadine Keough, daughters-in-law, Barbara Paul and Kelly Paul; his nephew, Ricky Canty; his niece, Michelle Kewer;

Chet is survived by his sons, Steven (Tressa), Gary Paul, David Paul, and Mark Paul; his grandchildren, Jessica, Stephanie, Heather, Daniel, Tara, Zoya, Jeff, Bridgett, Eric, Erin,

Lauren (Taylor); his brothers-in-law, James Keough, David Keough, Thomas Keough, Joseph Keough; his sisters-in-law, Geri Keough and Suzanne Keough; 14 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Beloved by many, Chet will be remembered for a life of devoted service, steady generosity, and the kind of humor that made others feel at ease—an enduring presence whose love of family and faith remained constant through every season of life.
