Born on April 22, 1969, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Danaé grew up in Slidell, Louisiana, and was a graduate of Slidell High School and Louisiana Tech University. She became a mom at 28 and also at that time developed a rare and life-changing health condition that affected her liver and biliary system. As result of a severe deterioration of her liver and a rare form of aggressive cancer that formed quickly, she was taken from this world.
Danaé was a fiercely beautiful presence in so many people’s lives and her legacy of strength, courage, and audacious hope lives on as an inspiration to all who knew her. Smart and ambitious, she established herself in the insurance field and was a force that touched and improved the lives of colleagues and business partners across the country. She was a loving, affectionate mother, protective while always encouraging her daughter's independence and celebrating her unique spirit. Friends knew Danaé as someone whose innate strength gave strength to others. Even while facing extraordinary health challenges, she remained generous with her time, her humor, and her heart. She had a remarkable gift for helping people believe things would somehow be okay.
Clever and quick-witted, Danaé loved a good laugh and treasured every opportunity to laugh alongside family and friends. She was a devoted soccer fan and enjoyed more than a few soccer crushes over the years. One of her favorite daily rituals was unwinding with cooking shows, especially Top Chef and The Great British Baking Show. Her steadfast partner of 12 years was also her adventure companion, and together they explored the beauty of New England, Texas, and Colorado through hiking, skiing, and countless outdoor adventures. While Claire was the unquestioned love of her life, Danaé also became a proud pet mom to three big, rambunctious mutts who brought her endless comfort, laughter, and joy.
Danaé's absence leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who loved her most. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Claire Elizabeth Cagle; her devoted partner, Robert Stone; her parents, Karen Claire Bachemin Palermo and Louis George Palermo; her sister, Laura Marie Palermo; and her brothers, Anthony Paul Palermo and Robert Louis Palermo. Though they grieve her loss, they will carry her light, love, and remarkable spirit with them always.
A celebration of life service will be held in New Orleans in October. More details to come.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Liver Foundation in Danaé’s honor. Click here to go to the Facebook page set up for donations: https://www.facebook.com/share/18qmpBEKwm/
